The NASIG Student Outreach Committee is pleased to announce the opening of the second year of its NASIG Student Mentoring Program, following the success of its pilot program last year. This program is designed to provide a yearlong opportunity for networking and professional development between NASIG regular members and our student members. This program will include an orientation (in-person & virtual option) in June, a virtual mid-year session, and monthly facilitated discussion questions (via email/phone/skype/etc.) between mentor/mentee. Mentors & mentees will discuss up front their expectations and needs for the program. Are you looking for someone to review your resume and help with job hunting? Or would you like a mentor to help you with the research and publication process?
For mentors, it is a chance to give back and help student members grow in the field while at the same time learning from their mentees.
For mentees, it is a great opportunity to learn from an active professional how to:
- Explore your career options
- Demonstrate a dedication to professional development
- Acquire the skills, attitudes, and relationships that you will need as you become a library and information professional
Participants must be NASIG members in good standing at of the start of the program, and must either attend the Mentor/Mentee orientation at the NASIG Annual Conference or be able to participate in a virtual orientation at a time to be determined.
March 2018 – Call for mentees/mentors
May 2018 – Mentor/Mentee matches announced
June 8, 2018 – In-Person Student Mentoring Program Orientation at NASIG Conference (Virtual Orientation date TBD)
June 2018 – Mentoring Program officially starts.
November 2018 – Mid-Program Virtual Session.
May 2019 – Mentoring Program officially ends
